Hobie Class Northeastern Area Championships

by Event media on 5 Jun 2006
The Hobie Class Northeastern Area Championships, hosted by Fleet 204 of Syracuse, NY drew near record attendance levels (20-21st of May), despite some less than favorable yachting weather. 92 boats attended the event including eight past champions.

The weather provided the greatest challenge as temperatures hovered in the low 50s all weekend, it rained much of the time and the winds were in the upper 20 to low 30 knot range. While 92 boats entered the event only 23 managed to complete all three races on the Saturday. Crash and burn sailing categorized most of the racing, although some intense competition did occur amongst some very experienced heavy wind teams.

The Northeastern Area Championships has always been more than just another regatta and each year there seems to be a new twist. This year was a new one, we had a wedding at the regatta. Rob Jerry and Darcie Sinnett were married at the Friday evening regatta party.
