The competitors in the NZL Yachting Trust Auckland Fiji Race have seen conditions moderate from the first two days of strong headwinds and big seas.

After the 0640hrs schedule this morning the wind is reported to have swung to the north west and the seas have moderated a lot.

The breeze is expected to moderate further and continue to swing to the south west.

At the latest report the Cookson 50 Pussy Galore (Anatole Masfen) was leading the Elliot 50 Sportivo (Wayne Tomlinson) by nine miles.

No reason was known for the withdrawal of Truxton, however all was well on board and she is returning to Auckland today.

In the Cruising fleets the lead boats have a 10 knot breeze from the WNW and have had rather an easier time than the Racing division.
