Sailability World Inc. will hold its inaugural annual general meeting on October 1 at San Felice Circeo, Italy, during the 2005 IFDS Single Person Dinghy Championships.
Sailability World is an international network representing national Sailability organisations from Australia, Austria, France, Hungary, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, Spain and USA, and is currently expanding activities into Eastern Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Sailability World is a non-profit, volunteer based organisation, whose mission is to promote sailing for people of all abilities by encouraging on-water activities regardless of type of disability or illness, nationality, language, wealth, race, religion, gender, colour or age.
Timothy Hone from Sailability Central West in Australia affirms, ‘Sailability has touched the hearts of many. Its success lies in the physical and emotional experiences that sailing fosters. Whenever one is doing something connected with Sailability, one is somehow linked to a ‘higher source’. This energy is so pure it is no surprise that the Sailability network is growing worldwide!’
Activities include recreational, therapeutic and competitive sailing, as well as the opportunity for personal development. Through a dedicated and enthusiastic network of international volunteers, Sailability is committed to improve the lives of disadvantaged and disabled communities through the healthy and exciting sport of Sailing.
A NSW Sailability volunteer, Allan Jones OAM, explained, ‘Sailability's potential for making a difference to the lives of those who struggle for a better one is massive. In regions where people with disabilities desperately seek a better life, Sailability can be the impetus to educate the whole community.’
