Sunsail Thailand and Malaysia fully operational after recent tsunami

Sunsail’s two Asian bases, situated at Boat Lagoon Marina on the eastern side of Phuket in Thailand and at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club in Malaysia, are fully operational again after the recent tsunami that affected some parts of the region.

Sunsail had 15 yachts out on charter at the time with over 100 clients on board. All yachts returned safely to their bases and none of the clients or staff working in these areas was hurt or injured.

The cruising areas of Phang Nga Bay in Thailand and around the Langkawi Islands in Malaysia are mostly unaffected by recent events, with beaches, restaurants and hotels open for business as usual.

The worst hit areas, Patong on the west coast of Phuket and Khao Lak a little further north on the Thai coast, are not on Sunsail’s sailing itinerary and the only place that is still closed to tourists within the sailing area is Kho Phi Phi. Otherwise it’s business as usual in this beautiful part of the world, and the best way of helping the local people recover from the terrible events of Boxing Day is for tourists to return as soon as possible.

Greg Boller, Commercial Manager of Sunsail Asia and Americas says, 'These sailing areas are amongst the best in the world with good cruising winds and spectacular scenery. We know the communities of the region are looking forward to welcoming visitors again and it is our intent to give them our utmost support in re-establishing their tourism economy.'

Sunsail is offering a 15% discount off holidays to Thailand and Malaysia in April and there are currently a wide range of promotional fares on offer from the airlines flying to the region.
