Seabin Pty Ltd an innovative technologies company active in the fight against water pollution and Poralu Marine, a french industrial global leader of aluminium facilities for marinas announce their exclusive partnership in the development, manufacturing and worldwide distribution of 'Seabin' a collector system of floating plastic waste for marinas, ports and water bodies around the world. This eco-friendly and innovative solution will be launched at the end of 2016.
Created by two Australians Andrew Turton, ocean lover, sailor, boat builder and Pete Ceglinski, industrial designer and surfer Seabin Pty Ltd - through its branch The Seabin Project - aims to fight against water pollution by means of innovative technologies and educational activities for businesses, communities and individuals including the children. The founders of Seabin Pty Ltd have developed the 'Seabin' a collector of floating waste in the fight against plastic pollution at its source.
Seabin - Innovation in its simplicity
Fixed to a pontoon, the Seabin immersed in the water and connected to an electric pump which creates a flow to attract floating waste and hydrocarbons to the collector. Wastes are collected in a bag composed of natural fibers. A separator cleans the water that will be released from hydrocarbons. Once full, the bag waste and pollutants container are emptied by maintenance personnel then replaced in the Seabin.
Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski co-founders of Seabin Pty Ltd declared: 'We are very pleased to enter into this partnership which comes after many years of research and testing. It was essential for us having a sustainable approach combining quality and responsibility to all levels from production to distribution'.
In this fight against plastic pollution Seabin Pty Ltd´s design and development team is supported by the R&D team of Poralu Marine as well as its wide distribution network: the company is active in 18 countries on five continents, and has factories in France, Canada and Australia.
Fayçal Rezgui, Head of CEI the environmental branch of the Poralu Marine Group explains: 'To remain a leader in our field we must be prepared for future challenges. Plastic pollution is a large and predominant one! In the Group, we are investing for many years in the development of eco-friendly solutions. The active marketing of Seabin will begin by the end of 2016.
Plastic pollution ... a big deal
Data vary depending on continents and studies but the reported numbers are still staggering. Given estimation, around 300 000 million tonnes of plastic are discarded each year in aquatic environments; more than five trillion of all sized particles floating in our oceans; it takes between one century and one millennium to degrade these components; one million of marine animals including 200 thousand mammals die each year due to plastic pollution; microscopic compounds from degradation are ingested by marine life that we find on our plates ...
