Sanctuary Cove International Show – Marine export confidence rising

Marine export confidence on the rise - 2016 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show http://www.sanctuarycoveboatshow.com.au/
Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show – Confidence is on the rise amongst those involved in the marine industry export market, with many exhibitors looking forward to the SCIBS in May, believing it will act as a predictor of sales activity for the year ahead.

As the first boat show on the Australasian calendar, significant for its unique position as an internationally-recognised B2B, industry and consumer event, SCIBS is considered a key indicator of the state of the marine industry and consumer sentiment.

With the 28th annual event taking place from May 19 to 22 2016, SCIBS general manager Johan Hasser said many of the big names attending this year’s event have interests in overseas markets and were able to forecast the year ahead based on SCIBS sales.

“Our exhibitors tell us SCIBS is a litmus test of things to come for the rest of the year, particularly exporters who have a global perspective of economic factors and market trends,” Mr Hasser said.

“The feeling across the board is that our exhibitors are extremely optimistic for this year’s Show. With the low Australian dollar already proving to have a positive effect on exports, it’s expected that this will reflect favourably on sales results, specifically with Australian manufacturers.”

MaryAnne Edwards, CEO at AIMEX-Superyacht Australia agreed the lower Aussie dollar had provided a shot in the arm for Australian exports.

“We have always marketed Australian products and services on quality and innovation, and now the dollar has come down, we are hearing that Australian-made is attracting more attention globally,” Ms Edwards said.

“This will likely flow on to SCIBS, making it more appealing for international visitors. We could assume that more international buyers will want to come to SCIBS to see the best in Australian ingenuity.”

Michael Trickey, Queensland sales manager for Muir Winches who are exhibiting at this year’s SCIBS, said the lower
Australian dollar had made Muir products much more competitively priced in the eyes of overseas purchasers.

“It has certainly helped us no end, making us around 30 per cent cheaper,” Mr Trickey said.

“Our international agents have told us that we are now more competitively priced, which as a premium product
makes us very attractive indeed.”

Mr Trickey agreed that SCIBS was a good indicator of the health of the local industry and buyers’ intentions.

“Following SCIBS last year our second half year was better than we had experienced for a while,” he said.

“The two trade days of the show, Thursday and Friday, are so important for us. That’s when serious buyers come
through on a specific mission. They ask the right questions and know what they want.”

Luke Durman, co-founder and director of Elandra Yachts, said he was very optimistic ahead of SCIBS 2016.

“All the indicators are there for a great show,” he said.

“We will have several international buyers coming to Sanctuary Cove to see the new 53 model, as well as plans for bigger models are on the drawing board.”

After SCIBS, the Elandra 53 is scheduled to make its debut on the American boat show circuit, at which Mr Durman
said he anticipates great response.

“The Aussie dollar has made our boats more competitive in the US market, where they’re seen as great value for what is essentially a superyacht calibre craft.”

At Maritimo, sales and marketing manager, Greg Haines said the company had ridden high on exports in the past
year.

“The US has been very strong for us,” he said, adding that Maritimo exports close to 50 per cent of its production.

“The Aussie dollar at this level helps exports and is a barrier to imported boats. We have had a very healthy level of enquiry, both here and in overseas markets. In 2016, we are looking forward to the world release of our M61 and the
first SCIBS appearance for the S48.”

Mr Haines said SCIBS was among the ‘must do’ boat shows for Maritimo each year.

“We consider it one of the top international shows, up there with Sydney, Cannes, Miami and Fort Lauderdale. SCIBS is a great lifestyle show,” he said.

“There’s a lot to do other than just look at boats, which engages the whole family. SCIBS is well known internationally as an important show, and we have noticed a lot of the overseas brands are choosing SCIBS to host world premieres of their products, which is great for the quality of the event.”

In addition to several major yacht launches in both power and sail, SCIBS 2016 promises an array of new products catering to every segment of the marine and leisure industries.

Mr Hasser said changes to the Show program and layout in 2016 will appeal to visitors and exhibitors alike.

“We have added a number of new attractions to enjoy over four massive days,” said Mr Hasser.

“This year we have introduced two new precincts - Supercar Street, with stunning automotive displays, and The Boat Yard, a themed section dedicated to trailerable and sportsboats. Added to this, there will be all-day family-friendly entertainment, a kids zone and on-water trials for potential buyers.”

Mr Hasser said the evolution of SCIBS to become an all-round marine-themed lifestyle event had proven a major drawcard for visitors.

“Whether you’re in the market for a jetski, stand up paddle board, chartering a boat for your next family vacation or looking to buy a yacht, SCIBS is the ideal place to experience every facet of the boating lifestyle.”

The International Business Lounge will once again welcome visiting delegations, while the Top Deck VIP Lounge,
presented by Club InterContinental, offers the premium boat show experience.

Available from $149 per person, each VIP pass provides exclusive access to the Top Deck VIP Lounge, a fully catered private retreat overlooking the marina, along with a range of benefits and special offers from a hand-picked collection of luxury brands such as Maserati and Maritimo.

Complete with a well-stocked bar, free Wi-Fi access and panoramic views of the Marina, the Top Deck VIP Lounge is the perfect space where you can negotiate a deal, entertain clients, mingle with friends old and new, or simply relax
and soak up the atmosphere.

“There’s really no event quite like SCIBS,” said Mr Hasser.

“We are certain exhibitors and seasoned SCIBS visitors will be impressed with the evolution of the Show and for the uninitiated, SCIBS 2016 will be a phenomenal family-friendly day out that ticks all the boxes!”
