2015 Amlin International Moth Regatta - Three races were completed today in flat crystal clear water with a wind speed of eight - twelve knots.
Race one: Anthony was the first 11th Hour Racing boat to cross the line, but it was Victor who won the day for our fleet, currently sitting in seventh overall.
Chris Museler mentioned how starting strategy differs from other fleets; drivers normally race the line not competitors whereas this boat, if you do not start accelerating with the first pack the wind shadow is so significant that getting up is next to impossible.
Race two was the lightest point sailors saw all day, making it difficult to foil, 'I saw the pack all sail into a hole so I tacked and went the other direction and picked up several boats' commented Victor. Nat Shaver had a breakdown in race one, but other than that there were no big collisions. The 30 minute sail back to home base was a delight, wind picked up as a small storm cloud rolled by leaving behind a complete rainbow.
Heavier sailors will be happy if tomorrow's forecast comes true: more breeze!
Bermuda does a great job of making water filling stations accessible both on and off the water, but unfortunately plastic recycling is not possible here, so what has been brought on island will go right back into the container to be recycled in the US.
