18ft Skiffs - Yamaha extend their lead in Boat Builders Series

Yamaha has extended their lead in the RAYC Boat Builders Summer Series now sitting 11 points clear of second place.

Trailing behind the consistent team is ASCC who are six points clear of third, the four up crew of C-Tech.

The first race of the day saw Yamaha lead from start to finish. Aaron Robinson, who was at the helm of an 18' skiff for the first time, raced the old ASCC boat and was quite competitive amongst the strong fleet. The Maersk Line team had an unfortunate race with crew member Josh Porebski trading sailing for gymnastics as he nailed a perfect dismount from the boat ending up in the water. They also damaged their 'whisker wire' which put them out the race.

In the second race it was Yamaha who again crossed the finish line in first place but they didn't dominate from the start. It was Knight Frank and Maersk Line who were the boats to catch and the both maintained their early lead. But on the first downwind it was Yamaha who launched first, setting early putting them ahead by the second turning mark.

The competition is hot. The fleet is lifting their game and are training hard to be in peak performance mode ahead of the Auckland Championship which happens over the weekends of the 28-29 November and 12-13 December.
