2015 CORK International Optimist Regatta – Day 1

by Marianne Davis on 8 Aug 2015
2015 CORK International Optimist Regatta – Day 1 SailingShot
First day of the CORK International Optimist Regatta. 109 sailors in the race fleet and 15 sailors in the green fleet set sail with six - eight knots of wind and sunny blue skies. Both the Green and the Red/Blue/White (Racing) fleets hit the water for a two o’clock start. The racing fleet completed two successful races, and green fleet completed four races. The racing course began the day with three general recalls and a black flag start.

Race one was won by Adam Larson BER, followed by Dale Whitmore CAN in second, Philippe Tanguay-Gaudreau CAN third and Galen Richardson CAN fourth. Adam Larson continued to lead the fleet, finishing in first in Race two. Lachlain McGranahan USA finished in second, and Sophie Holloway GBR in third. After the first day of racing Adam Larson sits first overall, Galen Richardson second, and Tatum Howell third. All sailors finished the day debriefing with their coaches. Looking forward to another great day of racing tomorrow!

During the CORK Optimist Regatta and CORK International, the St. Lawrence II tall ship will provide spectators with the opportunity to watch the racing and learn the fundamentals of traditional sail training. The spectator boat will be available daily from August nine - thirteen, leaving shore at 1200 noon. The cost will be $10 per person, with limited space available. All those setting sail to spectate the racing will also learn the operations of a Tall Ship, and can partake in the rigging and sailing of the boat.
