2015 M32 Series Scandinavia – Canfield sets M32s alight in Gothenburg

Day 1 - 2015 M32 Series Scandinavia M32 Series
2015 M32 Series Scandinavia – American Taylor Canfield and his Team USOne confirmed their catamaran racing credentials today when they scored four wins in eight races as the series resumed close to Gothenburg, on Sweden's west coast.

Racing took place on the Langedrag, just outside Gothenburg, the seven teams enjoying beautiful conditions with a westerly wind of 10-12 knots, and brilliant sunshine throughout the day.

US Virgin Islander Taylor Canfield, best known for being 2013 World Match Racing Tour champion, was pleased with his performance on the opening day of racing: 'Our sailing is consistent right now. We have a very good team spirit and we enjoy being here in Gothenburg. We are really looking forward to tomorrow when we are going to be racing in the harbour: It's going to be tight and narrow, but very exciting.'

1996 Star Olympic silver medallist Hans Wallén and his team Wallén Racing also had a good day. After been struggling in Oslo, Wallén today demonstrated some of his 2014 M32 Scandinavian Championship-winning form by scoring two wins.

'It feels good to know that we have fast boat and that the team is getting things together,' said Wallén, who is racing on home waters here in Gothenburg. 'We've been working hard and it has really paid off.'

However it is Essiq Racing Team, with young skipper Nicklas Dackhammar, that holds the runner-up position to Team USOne after this opening day: One win, three second places and two-thirds was a very good result for Essiq Racing Team. Dackhammar commented: 'The conditions suited us very well today. We feel that we have something good going on and tomorrow we will be on top.'
