First female Coast Guard Commodore

by Courtesy AVCG on 19 May 2004
Congratulations to the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard’s newly elected Squadron Commodore, Cheryl Dalling, of South Australia.

At its meeting last week the South Australian Squadron Board elected the first woman to hold the position of Squadron Commodore.

Cheryl joins Trish Gillett, appointed as National Training Commodore at the April National Board Meeting, as a full voting member of the National Board.

‘This is a significant achievement for these ladies and the Association, particularly when you read elsewhere that some other traditionally
‘male’ volunteer marine organisations have just appointed female vessel skippers for the first time,’ said Chris Gillett, National Commodore.

‘I am confident that both Cheryl and Trish will have many years of significant input to the administration of this organisation and again
congratulate them both on their positions,’ he added.
