Gold Coast Marine Expo - Quinnie's tough new tinnies set to premiere

by Emma Milne on 13 Feb 2015
The Quintrex 390 Explorer - A favourite with boaties Emma Milne
Beloved boat-builder Quintrex has confirmed that all of its 2015 model releases will be showcased for the first time in the world exclusively at the Gold Coast International Marine Expo (21-24 May 2015).

The latest exciting line-up of new models from 'the best little boat-builder in the world' – a selection of boats from 3m to 6.9m – will feature in a massive display outside Quintrex’s state-of-the-art facility within the Gold Coast Marine Precinct at Coomera.

And although many details of the innovative new designs remain under wraps ahead of their Expo debut, it has been revealed that the popular Quintrex Explorer line-up has received its biggest makeover since being released in the early 1990s.

This new design direction coincides with Quintrex’s 70th birthday this year.

'For the past two decades, Quintrex’s Explorer range has offered boaties an affordable and reliable tinnie – versatile enough to fish creeks or use as a tender, or even a car-topper for the keen camper … and now it’s about to get even better,' said National Account Manager Cameron Wood.

'With a new forked bow design, the Explorer range now features wider chines generating better stability at rest and extra storage room for your fishing gear, while the sharper entry point creates an even softer-riding hull.

'As one tough tinnie, the new Explorer range also features stronger side sheets and sleek new look thanks to a new pressing process which increases strength by up to 50% compared to previous models.'

Mr Wood said the 390 Explorer, in particular, had always been a best-selling model but the new design was a game-changer and would grab the interest of everyone from loyal Explorer fans to first-time boat owners.

'With the extra stability and up to 10% more space in the cockpit area, these tinnies are even more practical and versatile than before,' he said.

The 2015 Explorer Trophy range also has a new design direction, with a new bow boosting the volume of the front casting platform and underfloor storage.

'Being such a popular model, we wanted to make sure we came back with something our customers would love even more than before,' said Mr Wood.

Event and Marketing Manager Emma Milne said that over the Friday and Saturday of the Expo, visitors would also have the opportunity to participate in guided tours of the 8.6-hectare Telwater boat-building factory, where the Quintrex range of boats are created before being distributed through a worldwide network of dealers.

'Telwater is the largest manufacturer of aluminium boat and trailer packages in the Southern Hemisphere and many of our visitors will be rapt to have the chance to take a behind-the-scenes look at how they are built,' she said.

'At the Telwater factory, a team of over 200 people produce over 12,000 boats and 6000 trailers each year across the Quintrex, Stacer, Yellowfin and Savage marques, as well as Vortex engines.

'It’s great to have such a marine industry powerhouse supporting the dealers who will be exhibiting at the Expo as well as the Expo itself.'

Ms Milne said the Expo – now in its fifth year – has a firm heritage of being family friendly, offering interactive entertainment and live demonstrations every 15 minutes across an expanded event site which includes a 3km-long display circuit, as well as factory tours of the biggest luxury yacht and aluminium boat-building facilities in the Southern Hemisphere.

She said the Expo would once again be a massive showcase of ‘all things aquatic – from superyachts to kayaks, jet skis to fishing equipment … and everything in between’.

'We have many more exciting announcements over the next 15 weeks regarding new initiatives, new attractions and new launches that will confirm the Expo is the boat show with so much more,' she said.

'If you love boating, the Gold Coast is the place to be from 21-24 May 2015.'
