Lewmar EVO Race+ Winches save weight without compromising strength

by Tristan Campbell on 3 Feb 2015

The new high performance sheet winch range from Lewmar retains the proven durability of the EVO, but incorporates lightweight cast aluminium and slick looking carbon fibre inlays.

Lewmar has been at the forefront of yachting hardware development since 1946. The recent design of the EVO winch featured solid bronze centre stem and favoured quality CNC parts over plastic. The evolution continues with the new EVO Race featuring a sporty black anodized drum and carbon fibre top piece. A cast aluminum feeder arm is light and strong, and the already popular 'No Tool Servicing' applies.

For the more serious racer, the advanced EVO Race+ represents significant weight saving; around 23% over the EVO equivalent. A lightweight cast base stem, machined aluminium upper stem, and composite bearing technology achieve excellent power-to-weight ratio. The self-tailing size 40, for example, weighs in at a mere 3.6 kg. And only the slickest of crew work will match the racey looks of the carbon trims and silver stripe.

The EVO Race is already making waves on fast production boats internationally, with Germany’s Dehler Yachts specifying them as a standard. Kiwi Yachting distribute Lewmar in New Zealand.

Kiwi Yachting Director and America's Cup skipper, Dean Barker comments 'The EVO Race+ incorporates materials and technology from Grand Prix pedestal systems, but is compact and affordable for the modern club racer.'

The EVO Race is available through Lewmar resellers nationwide from $1179.00. See www.kiwiyachting.co.nz or call 09 3600 300 for more details.
