The Etchells World Championships are underway at the New York Yacht Club with a nine-race series expected to wrap up on Saturday June 28th. America’s Cup champion John Bertrand will headline this event along with many legendary sailors.

At least eight Canadian Olympians are registered in the 95-boat fleet. London Olympian Luke Ramsay is taking a break from the Nacra to crew on boat bow #48 (USA 1248) while Dirk Kneulman (4-time CAN Olympic boatwright) is sailing with fellow Olympian Andreas Josenhans on bow #45.

Canadians Stuart Flinn (1992 Olympics), Jay Cross (three-time Olympian), Richard Clarke (five-time Olympian), and Brad Boston (two-time Olympian) are all in the hunt, sailing under different bow numbers and country flags. Finn World Champion and Olympian Hank Lammens, large and in charge helming for bow #39 (CAN 1396) has potential for top 10 this week along with bow #5 sailed by Olympian Bill Abbott and Norwegian Olympic medallist Paul Davis. Other Canadians present include Andrew Cumming, David Lowther and Gerry Wendt.

All the big hitters have taken to the race course today with action held straight through until Saturday!
