Phuket sailors heading for the Topper Worlds in Wales

by Kathleen Gooch on 5 Jun 2014
Kartoon Jundet - Topper Class World Championships, Pwllheli, Wales, UK Kathleen Gooch
The Phuket Youth Sailing Club (PYSC) has been invited to send competitors to the International Topper Class World Championships to take place in Wales, UK August 9-15, 2014.

The International Topper is an ISAF recognised centerboard dinghy. The winners of these Championships are recognised by ISAF as World Champions.

Our objective is to take 2-3 Thai sailors to these International Topper Class World Championships. This will be the very first time Thailand participates in the Topper World’s event.

They will also be competing in the Topper Nationals in Wales from the 3rd – 7th August.

These sailors are Thai nationals, underprivileged children who have been training at the Phuket Youth Sailing Club specifically to join international competitions.

Not only are they acquiring sailing skills but they are truly 'learning life through sailing' and constantly improving their knowledge of English and openness to the outside world.

We are looking for support. We need to cater for: Travel expenses and visa fees, accommodation, entry fees, sailing gear and team kit and coaching.

Anyone interested in supporting this unique opportunity please contact Katy Gooch: Email: katy@toppersailphuket.com - Mobile 085 2159185/ 082 8146007

All three sailors have grown up living at the Phuket Sunshine Village Foundation (PSV). The PSV was founded in 2004 after the Tsunami hit Phuket and provides a safe and secure home for children who are either orphaned or who are no longer able to live with their natural parents.
