Shark attack on inflatable caught on video

by Sail-World Cruising round-up on 9 May 2014
Shark comes up for a look before attacking SW
If you are sailing in a shark prone area, don't think that your inflatable dinghy is going to protect you from a roving shark. Tales of sharks attacking inflatable dinghies have been around during sundowners in the cockpits of cruising boats for years, but the latest victims - a film crew - were quick enough to record the great white as it attacked their boat. Read on...

A production company for MaxAnimal was riding in the vessel when the shark sprung out of the water and took several bites out of the boat's pontoon. The shark did pop the boat before swimming away (but everyone on board was fine afterward).

At first, the shark is seen by an underwater camera moving towards the boat.

It then emerges from the ocean and starts attacking the rubber boat not once, but several times.

The filmmakers started to record the incident, getting as close as they possibly could.

Unfortunately for the crew, the boat was not shark-proof as a pontoon on the boat popped and started to sink.

On their YouTube channel, they posted: 'Why does a rubber inflatable boat sink in the ocean? Because a Great White Shark has just taken a Chunk out of it!

'Is the scariest part when the shark eyes our folks on the boat? Ah Yeah.'

The company also assured viewers there were no injuries involved.

'No, the shark is fine and so is the crew! Everyone made it out.'
