Organizadores da Volvo Ocean Race fazem visita técnica a Itajai

Os organizadores da Volvo Ocean Race fizeram, durante a semana, a primeira visita técnica de 2014 na cidade catarinense, que sediará uma das etapas da Volta ao Mundo, em abril de 2015. O diretor de operações, Tom Touber, e o responsável pelas stopovers, Stef van’t Zand, vistoriaram todas as infraestruturas relacionadas ao evento e apresentaram o novo caderno de encargos para 2014-15. Além disso, o grupo se reuniu com as autoridades locais. A atividade deve se repetir outras vezes neste ano. O principal objetivo dos organizadores é garantir que Itajaí repita o sucesso da edição passada, sediando pela primeira vez a Volvo Ocean Race.

'Há necessidade de pequenos ajustes em infraestrutura, mas o que precisamos mesmo é trazer muita gente para dentro do evento. A Stopover de Itajaí da edição passada foi uma surpresa para nós e também para muitas equipes. O número de visitantes estrangeiros pode ser bem maior desta vez', explicou Tom Touber.

Já o responsável pelas cidades-sede, Stef van’t Zand, reforça que as visitas serão trimestrais. 'O objetivo é acompanhar o andamento das ações relacionadas à parada brasileira e monitorar o cumprimento do caderno de encargos pela cidade'. Essa ação é realizada em todos as stopovers da Volvo Ocean Race.

Outra novidade para a próxima edição será o modelo dos barcos. Os Volvo Ocean 65 serão rigorosamente iguais. 'Como todos os veleiros estão sendo fabricados totalmente iguais, não haverá segredos entre as equipes. O acesso do público aos trabalhos promoverá uma maior integração entre as equipes e os visitantes', disse Stef van´t Zand.

Até agora, cinco equipes confirmaram participação na Volvo Ocean Race: Team Alvimedica, Team SCA, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, Dongfeng Race Team e Team Brunel. A regata terá 38.379 milhas náuticas de distância ou 71.745 Volvo Ocean Race
