M32 World Championship 2025 set to launch in Miami

Who will be hoisting the hardware at the M32 World Championship? Will we see an all-Julien podium, McKillen magic, an unwavering Wilson, or something else entirely? Surely, we won't know until the final moments of the final race.

"Everyone here is capable of winning the World Championship," said Bill Ruh, M32 Class President and Pursuit owner. "It's going to come down to who communicates the best, who sails the best, and who gets off the line. Our belief is that if you can average a four around the racetrack, you can win the Worlds."

Nationalities in attendance include Argentina, Australia, Austria, China, Ireland, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, UK, USA, and US Virgin Islands.

The climax of the M32 season is about to begin. 19 races later, we will crown a new World Champion. This fleet boasts some of the best owner-drivers in one-design sailing and a crew list that reads like a who's who of sailing. Four to five races are on the docket each day. The M32 racecourse features a full speed reaching start, followed by 17 minutes of wet, action-packed multihull racing.

"What I always say about the Class is that it's really like a big family—slightly dysfunctional—but a family," said M32 North America's Dave Doucett. "It's intense racing on the water, but we all come back to the same dock, the same tent, the same vibe. That's what makes the M32 fleet so special."

The Rated X Reign

Charlie Julien's Rated X claimed the overall title in the M32 Newport Summer Series. This world championship-winning veteran team of Keith Swinton, Rhys Mara, Julius Hallstrom, and Jeff McCooey is now led by young Charlie Julien. Julien came out swinging, winning his first-ever M32 event this January in Miami. All three Julien entries are contenders for the title.

The Glass Ceiling

Ava Wilson is on a mission to become the first woman to win the M32 World Championship. "I've been on the podium a few times at this event, but a woman has never won it. That's what we're going for," said Wilson. She is focused on following her routine instead of letting the pressure cook: "We're keeping it zen."

Will Surge Surge?

Ryan McKillen's Surge team with tactician Taylor Canfield started the season on a perfect note, nailing a hat-trick in Miami with three-out-of-three wins this 2025 winter season. But they stumbled in Newport later this summer, missing the podium in July and August. McKillen is known for his late-game surge; will he pull off his signature move and end the 2025 season on top?

ChinaOne.Ningbo

Phil Robertson is at the helm of the Chinese entry. He has won every M32 World Championship he's ever driven. Famously, he has a long running rivalry with Surge's Canfield. In the million-dollar match race in Marstrand 2016 Robertson beat Canfield. Will we see a rematch in Miami?

"The teams that are the toughest rivals here are actually the nine other boats," said Robertson. "Most have been on the circuit for years. They're all very strong teams, so we've got plenty on just trying to beat any one of them." Clearly it's anyone's game.

"We just left Sweden—minus eight degrees and ice—and arrived to this brilliant weather in Miami," said Håkan Svensson, Cape Crow Vikings helmsman and Aston Herald owner. "That's what this week is about: having fun, enjoying fair racing, and making sure there are no excuses. The boats are all the same. You just have to go out there and perform."

A Full Dance Card: Kicking off with a Pre-Worlds Thanksgiving Dinner after weigh-ins, the nightly after-sail social event schedule is stacked. Think: espresso shots, BACARDÍ drinks, dominoes, cigars, Miami BBQ, and more - all under the shade in our TUUCI Village.

M32 Winter Home

Five regattas in Miami this winter. Through a unique cooperation with Shake-A-Leg Miami, the entire fleet stays together and is moored at the same place throughout the event. It's a quick rig/derig process for monthly M32 events. Miami offers superior winter sailing and many teams, both American and European, make this their winter base.

TUUCI Village

Made possible by a generous sponsorship, teams are enjoying the TUUCI Village hospitality area fully decked out in the shade with lounge chairs, premium shade umbrellas, and luxury furniture.

An Exciting Year to Come

At Tuesday's M32 Class Meeting, the fleet firmed up 2026 plans. The M32 World Championship will come to Newport, Rhode Island, USA September 2026.

The 2025 M32 Miami World Championship promises to be an unforgettable spectacle, and fans are invited to follow the action and cheer on their favorite teams.
