18ft Skiffs- NSW Championship- First race in the new Van Munster hull

by Bob killick on 12 Nov 2013
18ft Skiffs: NSW Championship Simon Brown
In the 18ft Skiffs, Heat 1 NSW Championship, Gotta Luv it 7 got off to a perfect start to defend last year's scratch titles. Seve Jarvin, Scott Babbage, and the returning Sam Newton to the bow, handled the puffy SE Course impressively on their first race in the new Van Munster hull.

Gotta Luv it 7 raced into the lead on the second beat to Clark Island passing Thurlow Fisher Lawyers, Michael Coxon, Trent Barnabas, and Dan Nixon, who had led at the leeward pin, and pulled away to a 200mtr. lead. Team 7 then took off to a two min. 54sec. winning margin over TFL. Coxon's boys had their hands full all afternoon to hold off the chasers for the podium.

The well handled Smeg, Nick Press, Gary Phillips and Dave Ewings grabbed third at the death after scraping all day with Sydney City Marine, David Wiit, and Mica Lane's Appliances on Line. Gotta Luv it 7 goes into next Sunday's 3 Buoy Handicap as the lone scratch boat, and to win or even Podium in that race, will potentially have a tremor effect over the fleet for sure. Lumix came back well to pull into sixth on the final beat to the finish.

Pick the Podium, Congratulations Adrian Mills who perfectly nailed the Podium in the finishing order, and all on his own. A pair of www.barzoptics.com Java sunnies are going his way, and Adrian, of course the first use of the Pick the Podium Bragging Rights for this 18ftr racing season.

A look at The Ocean Cleanup and its the 30 Cities Program The cliche goes that one should avoid meeting one's heroes, as there's always a chance that the flesh-and-blood person might not live up to expectations. While I've never met Boyan Slat, I'd gladly take this risk.
