Still time to submit Portsmouth Yardstick returns

by Emma Slater on 29 Oct 2013

With November upon us, the deadline for annual Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) returns to be submitted to the RYA is looming ever closer.

Returns will be accepted up until 16 December, with clubs reporting back to the RYA at the end of their sailing season with data regarding PY handicap racing.

The data received is used to form the RYA Portsmouth Number (PN) list which is published each year at the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show (01-02 March 2014).

It is vital for the scheme that the RYA receives as many returns as possible from as many clubs as possible in order to keep the PN list relevant and accurate. In turn this gives other clubs useful starting handicaps and allows all clubs to normalise their club handicap lists against national trends.

Returns can be submitted to the RYA by either adopting the use of the PY Online website or by submitting an electronic return form to the RYA.

The RYA is actively seeking returns from all clubs for all PY racing for dinghies, keelboats and multihulls and whether you have five boats regularly racing or 50, no return is too small!

The RYA has already received a large number of returns from clubs across the country and a list of these clubs can be seen on the RYA website. If your club is not featured in this list it is not too late.

For clubs that run solely cruiser racing, the RYAs new National Handicap for Cruisers scheme does not require an annual return as it operates under slightly different principles.

For more information regarding the PY, submitting a return or to see the list of clubs that have returned data to the RYA please, click here or email PYReturn@rya.org.uk
