T15 Inter-Club Championship - Youth windsurfing teams battle it out

Team15 (T15) Inter-Club Championship - Across the UK, youth windsurfing teams have been battling it out on the water in a bid to be crowned 2013 Team15 Champions.

With just three months of racing to go until the national final-the Team15 Champions Cup held in October, competition is heating up with the 34 teams all desperate to secure their place.

The Team15 Inter-Club Championship takes place in nine regional Zones across the UK with four events held in each Zone. At the end of the series, teams with the best score in each Zone go head to head in the National Final, the Team15 Champions Cup.

South Zone

·Kicked off the championship back in May in Weymouth
·‘Will’s Weymouth Warriors’ make their Team15 debut
·Reigning South Zone champions the ‘Axbridge Animals’ dominated the opening rounds claiming the win at first two events

Midlands Zone

· Croft Farm Flyers celebrate their first ever Team15 victory (event one)
·Reigning Midlands Champions the ‘Pitsford Pirates’ come back in fighting form beating local rivals the ‘Carsington Comets in events two and three
·Croft Farm Flyers sit in third place (events two and three)

Scotland Zone

·Largs Wave Warriors secure win on home waters (first event)
·Champions Cup regulars Loch Insh Monsters also claim win on home turf (second event)
·Will the Clyde Barracudas be able to up their game and secure victory at the next event in August?

South East Zone

·Spray Sprites gain early bragging rights claiming two wins out of two
· 2012 Team15 Champions the Hythe Hotshots finish second place in first two events
· The Rye Rebels currently sit in third position

North Zone

· The team to beat so far are the Pugneys Pirates last year’s North Zone regional Champions
· Derwent Devils finish second place in event one
· New kids on the block the Kielder Kestrels are not far behind with a great start in the Championship (second place in event two)

West Zone

· 2011 T15 Champions West Kirby Warriors dominate in their first two events
· Hollingworth Hunters are close behind finishing in second place in event one and two
· Glorious Glossop currently sit in third place

South West

· Polkerris Pirates are leading their Cornish competitors
· The Siblyback Water Warriors finish second place in event one and third place in event two
· Last year’s South West Champions, the Roseland Waveriders also secure second place in event two

Wales

'The programme aims to help us to identify and develop the nation’s future windsurfing talent and halfway through the season we’ve seen some great racing in the build-up to the Champions Cup' said Duncan Truswell, RYA Youth Racing Manager.

'Once again the talent out on the water is superb and with a mixture of new teams coming through as well as some regular faces returning, places in the Champions Cup final are certainly still up for grabs at this stage'.

Team15 is the RYA’s youth windsurfing development programme helping make windsurfing more accessible and appealing to kids aged 15 and under at grassroots level. The Team15 Inter-Club Challenge Series takes place regionally over the summer adding a competitive edge and race training for those keen to hone their skills.

The Team15 Champions Cup final will take place at Northampton Sailing Club on Pitsford Reservoir on the 12th and 13th of October. To get involved with Team15 and locate your nearest local club visit website!

Fun and informal training sessions take place at T15 clubs all over the country for kids up to the age of 15, which are run weekly by specialist RYA coaches. Kit can be borrowed from the clubs and the cost of sessions is kept low.
