International Paralympic Committee Athletics to hold Sport Forum

The 2-day IPC Athletics Sport Forum will take place in Frankfurt, Germany, starting on Thursday, 6th December, as representatives from IPC Athletics, National Paralympic Committees and International Organisations of Sports for the Disabled (IOSDs) will discuss progress and future developments in athletics.

Representatives will deliberate technical and classification rule updates, sport strategy and the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games event programme. They will also attend presentations regarding the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France the 2013 IPC Athletics Marathon World Cup.

Ryan Montgomery, IPC Athletics Manager, said: 'IPC Athletics has experienced tremendous progress in the last year alone, and with that growth comes the necessity to evaluate its current position by involving our community to allow us to further develop and promote the Paralympic Games and Movement.'

Those in attendance will also receive an IPC Athletics competition update and be asked to provide feedback on the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Every session of athletics at London 2012 was played out in front of a capacity crowd of 80,000 at the Olympic Stadium, where China was the dominant force, taking home 86 medals - including 33 golds - in the 170 medal events. Nearly one million people tuned in to watch IPC Athletics events.

In total, 1,134 athletes took part in track and field events in London setting 102 world and 139 Paralympic records.

The next stop for the world's best athletes will be the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France, which get underway on 19 July of next IPC website
