Canfield membawa bakat-bakat muda untuk Monsun Cawan

Taylor Canfield dan pasukannya US One Sailing Team yang terdiri daripada bakat muda dari Amerika akan turut serta bersaing dengan 11 pasukan lain di Piala Monsun, acara terakhir Siri Jelajah Dunia Mtach Racing Alpari (AWMRT) bermula Isnin ini 3 Disember 2012 di Ri Yaz Heritage Marina Resort.

Penyertaan Siri Jelajah daripada Amerika sudah lama menyepi sejak tahun 2004 apabila Ed Baird bertanding sebelum menemui kemenangan di America's Cup pada tahun 2007. Pemilihan Canfield ke Piala Monsun berdasarkan beberapa kriteria seperti kemenangan di Argo Group Gold Cup di Bermuda pada bulan lepas dan tempat ke-empat di Chicago Match Cup pada Julai.

Walaupun Canfield memenangi Piala Monsun minggu depan, memandangan skor setiap siri jelajah akan diambil kira dia tetap tidak akan mampu menjuarai Kejohanan tersebut. Bjorn Hansen kini menduduki tempat pertama dalam carta siri jelajah dengan 104.25 mata, diikuti rapat oleh juara bertahan Ian Williams dengan 102 mata. Canfield yang mempunyai 41 mata menduduki tempat ke-9.

Namun demikian, Canfield kekal skipper ranking tertinggi di Amerika Utara, dan kini ke-9 di kedudukan ISAF Dunia, pencapaian tertinggi beliau. Beliau juga Pengarah Pelayaran Match Racing Centre (CMRC) di Chicago yang menjadi tuan rumah untuk acara Chicago Match Cup yang telah berlangsung pada bulan Julai lepas.

'Kami sangat teruja kerana berjaya ke Piala Monsun, ia adalah satu kejayaan sebenar untuk kami setalah tiga tahun bekerja-keras. CMRC telah menjadi elemen penting dalam kejayaan kami, dan kami amat berterima kasih mempunyai peluang ini berlatih dan berlumba di bawah pasukan US One,' kata Canfield yang disertai oleh ahli-ahli pasukan Dan Morris, Hayden Goodrick, Mike Rehe dan Rod Dawson.

Team US One akan menghabiskan 2 hari berlatih, mengenali kapal F36 yang akan digunakan di Piala Monsun dan sehari berlatih sesama pasukan lain sebelum mereka bertembung pada pusingan kelayakan pertama Isnin nanti menentang Bjorn Hansen (SWE) Mekonomen Sailing Team, Ian Williams (GBR) Team GAC Pindar, Keith Swinton (AUS) Black Swan Racing, Dato’ Peter Gilmour (AUS) Yanmar Racing, Pierre Antoine Morvan (FRA) Vannes Agglo Sailing Team, Laurie Jury (NZL) KiwiMatch, Phil Robertson (NZL) Waka Racing, Johnie Berntsson (SWE) Berntsson Sailing Team, Adam Minoprio (NZL) Alpari Racing Team, David Gilmour (AUS) Team Gilmour and Jeremy Koo (MAS) KFC Malaysia/KRT.

'Kami yakin pada peringkat ini kerana telah dapat gambaran bagaimana pasukan lain akan belayar'. kata Canfield. Kami berlumba menentang David Gilmour pada di CMRC Gred 2 Acara Grand Slam tahun ini, dan berlumba terhadap Morvan di Chicago Perlawanan Piala pada bulan Julai dan juga pada tahun lepas di Gred 1 Navy Pier. Kami berjaya mengalahkan mereka di kebanyakan perlawanan, jadi kami hanya perlu meneruskan usaha tersebut.'
