Sailing really became part of Geoff Catt's life around 1990 when he joined the crew of a racing yacht at the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia - this continued for over 10 years and involved many local races including the Adelaide to Port Lincoln Race each year. Then, in 1995 he was invited to crew in his first Sydney to Hobart and from that point on he was hooked.

The Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race is a prestigious 628-nautical-mile oceanic challenge starting on Boxing Day, when the fleet races down the Australian east coast, crosses the notorious Bass Strait, and finishes in Hobart, Tasmania.

Long distance ocean racer, Geoff Catt tells of the mix of disappointment and elation on reaching the finish line at Constitution Dock in Hobart, and how the ocean is no place for the faint-hearted!
