The organizers of the Caribbean Multihull Challenge (CMC) are excited to announce the opening of registration for the 2027 event, which will be held on February 4-7 in Sint Maarten.
Hosted by the SMYC, this year's CMC will once again feature some of the top multihull racing action in the Caribbean at one of the region's best venues. Drawing top competition year after year, this will be the ninth edition of his exciting regatta and SMYC looks forward to having some of the biggest and fastest yachts in the Caribbean come for the fun.
Join us for four exciting days of racing in all multihull classes including those with CSA and MOCRA ratings, along with a dedicated Diam 24 one-design class. Organizers are also excited to announce that the CMC will now be open to one-design classes including F18s and Hobies.
Along with the new Line Honors award that debuted in 2026, trophies in the 2027 edition of the CMC will be awarded to catamarans and trimarans competing in every class, which creates better competition and an increased chance of winning.
"The Challenge has evolved a little each year. For 2027, we've extended the invitation to beach cats to join the fun—F18s and Hobies are now welcome. We're also thrilled to extend prize-giving to catamarans and trimarans who will race the same courses in the same classes, but they will be awarded their own 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies based on the number of entries," said Petro Jonker, Chair of the Caribbean Multihull Challenge Race and Rally Steering Committee.
Last year's race winners included the Nigel Irens 63 trimaran Sophia in CSA 1, the Rapido 40 Spike in CSA 2, and the Diam 24 Fastnet in the one-design class. We look forward to seeing who will stand atop the podium in 2027!
With the conclusion of the 2026 Caribbean racing season, the Caribbean Sailing Association’s Budget Marine Windies Multihull Trophy will also be presented at the 2027 CMC. Congratulations to the winner of the 60 Feet and Over Class, the Nigel Irens 63 trimaran Sophia, and to the winner of the Under 60 Feet Class, the Leopard 50 La Novia!
The CMC isn’t just for multihull racers, though! There will once again be a CMC Rally run in conjunction with the racing events, taking cruising enthusiasts to different parts of the island while competing in time trials and navigator’s challenges. Destinations include beautiful Friar’s Bay, Orient Bay, Baie Rouge, and Mullet Bay, and, as always, the camaraderie amongst crews will be part of the fun.
“The rally forms another part of the event in its own right.” Jonker continued. “Vessels join the rally for a sailing time trial by day and social time by night, bringing the fleet together each evening for events based out of Sint Maarten Yacht Club. Friday late afternoon brings a sporty, fun gathering on Kim Sha Beach, an easy stroll from the club for all participants—more social fun and a bigger variety of sailing multihulls.”
