The third round of the Phantom Eastern Series was hosted by the Creeksea massive on 11th-12th of July.
The forecast was looking favourable as 17 boats turned up to legendary hospitality of the Creeksea Phantom fleet.
Saturday dawned and the breeze built unfortunately wind was blowing across the river meaning a good beat was going to be difficult to achieve; a reaching start it was to be.
Series leader John Wayling made a poor start and never recovered with the race being won by Paddy Denny. Race 2 had a slightly different course and local boy Bill Taylor comes good to take the win; John Wayling making up for his woes in race 1 and coming in second.
After a break for lunch it was decided to squeeze an extra race in for the day given Sunday's forecast for stronger wind conditions. Race 3 was won by John Wayling; Paddy Denny second. Race 4 and the tide had turned sweeping two boats over the line at the start - neither bothered to return - one being writer of the report! Bill Taylor took line honours, leaving the top three boats tight on points after day 1.
Evening entertainment courtesy of the Denny brothers providing a large TV and router for the viewing of the England game.
Day 2 the breeze as forecast had stiffened and seven boats decided it was a bit much and decided not to venture out. Two shortish races were planned and race 5 was won by Paddy Denby; all to play for in the last race with Paddy and Bill on two wins apiece. Race 6 and a few more boats headed for shore as the breeze built a little. Bill Taylor made a good start but unfortunately couldn't make the gybe and went for a swim putting him out of contention, leaving John and Paddy to duke it out with John Wayling to eventually take line honours giving him two first places as well.
With two discards John Wayling was the eventual winner of the weekend. Some great close racing and great Creeksea hospitality for a great weekend.
