Today, the Storm Trysail Club announced that entry for the 32nd edition of Block Island Race Week (BIRW) is now open.

The regatta—the last true race week on the East Coast—will run from June 21-25, 2027 based out of Champlin's Resort and Marina on Block Island. Entry can be completed on BIRW's YachtScoring page.

For 2027, Block Island Race Week is expanding what will now be called the Coastal Racing circle across multiple divisions of the fleet. Formerly known as the Performance Cruising or Navigators Classes, the Coastal Racing Circle is open to now ORC, PHRF Spinnaker, PHRF Non-Spinnaker, Double-Handed, and Multihull classes.

Coastal Racing features one longer race each day, combining tactical navigation, varied conditions, and the best of Block Island's surrounding waters. Depending on class configuration, competitors may race under either traditional Rule 26 starts or pursuit starts. Full class details and eligibility are available in the Notice of Race.

"The Storm Trysail Club is excited to continue expanding Coastal Racing at Block Island Race Week," said Race Chair Rear Commodore Matt Gallagher. "We've seen tremendous growth because the format appeals to such a wide range of sailors. By expanding these classes in 2027, we're offering even more opportunities for teams looking for longer, tactical racing that showcases everything Block Island has to offer."

Block Island Race Week 2027 will still offer traditional windward/leeward bouy racing for ORC, PHRF, and One-Design classes. Crew limits remain in place for designated classes to provide a fair and competitive platform for Corinthian teams, while the ORC Open class continues to welcome professional and fully crewed campaigns.

This balance has become a hallmark of Block Island Race Week, where world-class professional sailors and amateur competitors race alongside one another in a uniquely competitive and welcoming environment. The regatta will also feature the return of the iconic Around the Island Race, one of the week's signature events, taking competitors on a scenic and tactical lap of Block Island and past many of the island's most recognizable landmarks.

Details on docking arrangements for the week will be available in the Fall. Teams that enter and pay their fees in full by December 31, 2026 will be eligible to receive for a discount code for docking.

Stay tuned to the Storm Trysail Club website, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube for updates throughout the year as BIRW approaches. See you on Block Island!.
