2026 Gran Canaria GLORIA World Cup - Day 3

by International Windsurfing Tour 8 Jul 11:44 PDT 4-12 July 2026

The Challenger rounds are where dreams are made and hearts are broken - it all went down at the Home of the Wind today at the Gran Canaria GLORIA Windsurf World Cup 2026.

Eight riders sailed their hearts out through the single elimination gauntlet to earn the prize every competitor wants: a place in the main seeding draw in a 5-STAR WORLD CUP alongside the world's best.

It was a full day of high pressure, do or die heats in the jump focused Pozo Izquierdo conditions here in Gran Canaria. Every rider on the water knew the maths was simple - finish top two of your 4 rider heat, or go home. Here are the eight who made it through.

Men's Challengers - into the Pro Open draw

#1 Josep Pons (ESP) was the man of the day, sailing with total authority from start to finish. He topped every step of his run through the Challenger rounds and carried that momentum straight into the main draw - a statement performance from the Spaniard.

#2 Carlos Kiefer Quintana (ESP) delighted the home crowd, topping his Challenger Final heat with a composed, confident display. A local favourite advancing on home waters - exactly the kind of story Pozo loves.

#3 Lennart Neubauer (GRE) brought his trademark energy and progressive style, holding his nerve in the Challenger Final to book his spot. The young Greek talent is one to watch as the pro rounds heat up.

#4 Takumi Moriya (JPN) was a model of consistency, sailing smart, clean heats throughout and finishing strong in the final to punch his ticket. Japan's flag flies on into the main event.

Women's Challengers - into the Pro Women draw

#1 Daida Ruano Moreno (ESP) lit up the bay with the standout ride of the entire Challenger day, posting a superb 10.13 in front of an adoring home crowd. Gran Canaria's own wave sailing icon showed exactly why Pozo is her playground - a clear signal of things to come on home turf.

#2 Milanka Linde (GER) rose to the occasion when it mattered most, topping her Challenger Final heat with a clutch performance to secure her place among the pros.

#3 Helena Derya Lale (GER) sailed with poise and determination all the way through, advancing alongside her compatriot and adding real strength to the German charge.

#4 Isabel van Noesel (NED) was relentless across both rounds, winning early and backing it up in the final to keep the Dutch flag in the hunt. A well earned step up to the main draw.

The Home of the Wind delivers again

From dominant scores to nerve holding comebacks, the Challenger day showed the depth and heart of the international wave sailing fleet - and once again, the Pozo Izquierdo community brought the energy, the welcome and the unmistakable island spirit that makes this event so special.

The World Windsurf Tour salutes every rider who took to the water today, and congratulates the eight qualifiers. From here, the seeding brackets begin - and the world's elite are waiting.

The best is still to come. With the forecast building through the week, the pro main event is set to explode into life. Fans on the island are invited down to the beach, and audiences worldwide can follow every heat live.
