Lark Craftinsure Traveller's Series at Frensham Pond Sailing Club

by Stuart Hydon 22 May 01:41 PDT

Once again the Larks were welcomed to Frensham as part of the 2026 Craftinsure Traveller's Series.

Race 1 got under way with Stuart and Nick leading the way up the short beat and making the most of the run by soaking away to the leeward mark. In contrast the team of Chris and Kate Holliman went high and gybed into the mark rounding second. Stuart and Nick managed to pull away although early on until they were becalmed and the rest of the fleet caught up. During that time John Brickwood and Andy Hicks provided an unusual manoeuvre when on a tight reach the wind headed and they had to tack around the mark with the kite up! It must have worked as they finished second!

Race 2 saw carnage at the end of the first short first leg with Clive Eplett and Vicky Brickwood not understanding the rule of Port and Starboard on Vicky's fellow husband, John Brickwood. This allowed the fleet to clear the way down the next leg as these two got impaled on each other. James Goss and Tegwyn Roberts took full advantage to obtain a reasonable lead. Their lead soon evaporated on one of the long beats when Stuart and Nick overhauled them to take the win.

The final race got under way after a short break which saw once again Stuart and Nick take the lead and sail away. Clive and Vicky were in second position for a while, but due to equipment failure with a broken spinnaker pole end they were eventually taken by James and Tegwyn.

Thanks go to Frensham Pond SC for putting on a great event with traditional tea at the end of the day. Also, thanks to Craftinsure for the sponsorship of the event and series.
