The 2026 Sail Port Stephens Commodores Cup Passage Series gets under way tomorrow, marking the 19th year of one of Australia's premier offshore sailing events - and it's shaping up to be the largest yet.

A record-breaking fleet of around 124 starters will hit the line immediately off Nelson Bay's breakwall, making this year's edition even bigger than a Sydney Hobart race start.

Competitors and spectators alike can look forward to spectacular conditions, with forecasts predicting bright sunshine and a 10-12 knot south-westerly breeze, ideal for fast, tactical racing across the stunning Port Stephens waterway.

Spectators can catch the action from 10.55am, with dedicated seating at the breakwall offering a prime vantage point to witness the action close-up. The starts will also be live-streamed on the event's Facebook page.

Among leading lights in Division 1 include Marcus Blackmore's RP52 Ammonite 52, the Kerr 40 Mk3 Condor, Shaw 11m Little Nico and two Farr 400s - Bullwinkle and Vento.

The excitement has already begun following the successful running of the Newcastle to Port Stephens Race today, a key feeder event into the regatta. Crews were treated to exhilarating strong reaching conditions across Stockton Bight, with standout performances across the fleet.

Taking line honours, and securing both PHS and ORC handicap victory, was the Thompson 920 Road Runner (LMYC), which powered to the finish at speeds of up to 20 knots, completing the course in an impressive 1 hour 41 minutes.

IRC honours went to KD4, skippered by Joe de Kock, capping off a highly competitive offshore race.

The onshore celebrations will continue tomorrow, with the official Welcome Party set to deliver a legendary atmosphere at d'Albora Marina Nelson Bay. An event marquee, introduced for the first time, will host competitors and supporters, with a legendary Australian band to headline the evening.

It kicks off the largest entertainment line-up in the event's history, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy both on and off the water.

With record participation, ideal sailing conditions, and a vibrant program both on and off the water, the 2026 Sail Port Stephens Commodores Cup Passage Series is poised to be one of the most memorable editions yet. It runs until Saturday April 18.
