In the U13 category, the title goes to Catalonia thanks to Toni Rivas and Alexia Sotomayor, who finished the competition in first place.
The 2026 edition came to a close on Sunday with the fourth and final day of competition, during which the race committee was able to complete three races.
The 18th Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja wrapped up with an action-packed finale as the wind finally arrived, allowing sailors to show their skills on the water. Three races were completed on the final day, bringing the total to five races out of the twelve originally scheduled. These results were enough to validate the competition and crown the winners across the different categories, delivering a thrilling conclusion to the regatta.
Local sailor Izan Rogel (RCN Torrevieja) has been crowned overall champion. After finishing Thursday with only one race completed, the Torrevieja native shared the lead with the other three representatives from the different groups: Nicolás Bastard, Charles Ganivet and Metehan Asar.
On Friday, Rogel did not perform particularly well and, after finishing in tenth place, he lost a few positions in the overall standings. On Saturday, the fleet was unable to take to the water due to excessive wind.
Aware that Sunday was decisive, the Torrevieja native performed at a high level and posted scores of 1-2-7. In addition, upon completion of the fourth race of the championship, the discard came into play, allowing him to eliminate Friday's tenth place finish. Thus, Rogel closes the regatta at home with a total of 11 points, securing the overall title.
Next to Rogel, the podium is completed by Basque sailor Nicolás Bastard (RCMA - RSC), who started the day as leader. However, despite scoring 10, 7 and 5 in the races, totalling 14 points, it was not enough to maintain first place, and he finished in second position. Third place went to Jan Palou (RCN Palma), who stood out today with two partial victories and an eighth place, adding to his previous results: 42-8, he ended his participation in Torrevieja with 15 points.
In the women's category, María Antonia Peñalver (CN Mar Menor) from Alcázar de Henares managed to hold on to the top spot she achieved on Thursday. Although she started today with two difficult heats (16-12), she finished the third race in a solid second place, which, added to her previous results, secured her the championship title with 24 points.
The silver medal went to Evangelia Chatziioakeimidi (ANOG) from Greece, who finished with 28 points, while Emma Frau (RCN Palma) from the Balearic Islands took bronze with 46 points, particularly noteworthy for her third place in Sunday's first race, her best result of the championship.
In the U13 category, the podiums were awash with Spanish colours. In the men's category, Toni Rivas (CN Garraf) finished first, excelling in his five events with the best results of 2nd and 4th place. He was joined on the podium by Jonah Watson of the United States, with 55 points, and Hugo Sarmiento (CM Almería), who took bronze with 68 points, the same as Miho Miloglav (JK Orsan) of Croatia; however, the Almeria native's better partial results allowed him to climb to third place.
In the women's category, the podium is also Spanish: Alexia Sotomayor (CN Vilassar de Mar) takes gold with 73 points, followed by Lola Carrión (RCN Arrecife) with 77 points, and bronze goes to Nikole Victoria Douglass (CN Jávea), who scores 133 points.s.
