The second round of North Wales Dragon Series took place at Port Dinorwic SC / Clwb Hwylio Y Feliniheli on 10th May. With a forecast for new racers on 8-10 kt throughout the week promising ideal conditions and organisers were confident of a successful event.

It was successful but actual winds were double of the forecast breeze and with a direction (N-E) that guaranteed more than a little variability. Despite this all sailors dealt with the wind and waves commendably with few capsizes.

Two races held inshore before lunch and two after lunch with conditions easing slightly a longer course using the entire width of the Strait meant tired (but happy) sailors at the end of the day.

Fleets consisted of RS Tera Pro and Sport, ILCA 4 and 6 Topper and Optimists plus a training fleet coping admirably in the wind. With entries split 50/50 boys and girls the Winters RYA Pathway training paying off with tight racing and much planing on the reaches.

Medals awarded to each class with boys one gold, two silver, and a bronze with girls one gold and one bronze. Additional prizes were kindly donated by Force 4 Chandlery.

Observer International Racing Coach Alan Williams completed a review of the racing with the competitors, after the prize-giving.
