A high over the southern Tasman is extending a ridge along the coast. Winds gradually turn northerly as the high drifts east during the weekend.
A cold front is forecast to brush along the south coast on Sunday, bringing a southerly change to coastal waters. Northeasterly winds forecast to redevelop next week as the next ridge settles over the coast.
When and where
For all the coasts from Byron down to Illawarra on Sunday 25 Jan, Surf conditions may be more powerful than they appear and are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing. Seas will be around 1.5 4 metres, swells will be 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Swell directions are mostly south easterly.
For all the coasts from Byron down to Illawarra on Monday 26 Jan, Surf conditions may be more powerful than they appear and are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing. Seas will be around 1.5 to 2.5 metres, swells will be 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Swell directions are mixed: south easterly but some secondary north easterly swells on the Macquarie, Hunter and Sydney coasts.

Swell period will be between and 14 seconds.
