Reliable Italian sources are speculating that the first Preliminary Regatta for the 2027 America's Cup will be held in Cagliari, Sardinia - the home of seven time Italian Challenger, Luna Rossa.

Top Italian sailing journalist Fabio Pozzo, writing in La Stampa says that on January 21, the key dates for 2026 and 2027 America's Cup cycle will be announced in Naples.

However La Stampa says "Sardinia has also called a press conference for January 16th, at which the Region is expected to announce that the first Preliminary date will be Cagliari."

There are expected to be three Preliminary Regattas, as with the 2024 America's Cup - with two being held in AC40s and the third in AC75s.

Currently there are five teams announced by the Defender and Challenger of Record for the 38th Match.
