Dangerous fishing conditions Wednesday Sydney and all northern coasts

Why

A weakening high pressure ridge extends east to northeasterly winds over coastal waters. A trough will brush the coastal waters Tuesday night, bringing a surge of fresh southerly winds along the coast, followed by another ridge extending from a high passing to the south of the state, gradually turning winds northeasterly.

Where

For Wednesday 31 Dec, BOM is warning of large and powerful surf conditions hazardous for crossing bars by boat and rock fishing for Sydney and all northern coasts. Seas will be around 1 metre, swells will 2.5 metres. Swell directions are south easterly.

Swell period

Swell period will be around 8 seconds early Wednesday, then lengthening to about 12 seconds.

Check local forecasts to get the latest before you go out on the BOM website at www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/map.shtml.
