Dell Quay Sailing Club Frostbite Series 2025/26 - Day 1

by James Pound 21 Dec 06:54 PST 20 December 2025

Sailors were welcomed by a glorious winter's day with a gentle F2 occasionally F3 from the SSE/S which would prove testing once racing was under way.

Dell Quay welcomed several sailors including some juniors from Felpham and Langstone Sailing Club, thank you for coming and look forward to seeing you again on the 3rd Jan - Its very much an open event, please come along and join us! (Details can be found here).

The mixed handicap fleet of 19 boats set off on time at 1030 with a 2 lap (1 for juniors) course giving some testing beats with the fluky conditions with some good change of positions including the lead on the water.

With a great mixed fleet of 6 Solos, 7 Lasers (mixed sizes), Aeros, Comet, RS Tera Sport, 2000 and RS400 it was lovely to see on such a gorgeous day.

Roger Puttock in his Solo certainly kept his nose clean and was the Solo to beat, the Laser fleet was led on the water by Will Parrot in his new full rig (new to him) and as a first day out, did very well, although did admit later that he nearly went for a swing having got stuck under the boom (previous Firefly sailor!) but the RS400 was off in clean air which was important today and the results showed.

After a quick turnaround the fleet were under way for Race 2 in much the same light testing conditions. A tight start line led to one OCS but the fleet were off and with the tide starting to ease led to a wider spread on the first beat.

A big shout out to the juniors and visiting sailors certainly kept the DQ sailors on their toes pushing them all the way around! With some position changes throughout the race, including 2 capsizes it was a fun day to be on the water, nothing too challenging but what better way to spend time?

We look forward to seeing you on the 3rd January 2026!
