NacionalGest Christmas Regatta 2025: excitement and festive spirit light up the weekend in Cascais

by Press CNCascais 12 Dec 2025 21:38 AEDT 6-8 December 2025

From December 6th to 8th, the Clube Naval de Cascais hosted the NacionalGest Christmas Regatta 2025, bringing together 218 sailors of all ages from various national and international clubs.

Over three days, the club experienced a true sailing weekend marked by high-level competition, camaraderie among participants, and the festive spirit that fills Cascais at this time of year.

The first two days of the event were marked by light and shifting winds, challenging sailors' patience, tactics, and finesse. But on the final day, nature took centre stage: strong winds and a growing swell created thrilling and decisive races, putting the skills and endurance of all competitors to the test.

In the Star Class, the top of the podium was secured by Renato Conde Conde and Diogo Gameiro Gameiro, after a consistent performance throughout the weekend. José Malhão Mendes and Antoine Victor, representing the Yacht Club Ile de France, finished second, followed by Rui Neves and Romain Maitre of the WHITE STARS team.

In the Finn Class, Clube Naval de Cascais showed its strength, with Fernando Bello taking first place, ahead of Gonçalo Castro Nunes and Miguel Maya.

In ILCA 4, Matilde Moules (Clube Naval da Praia da Vitória) delivered an outstanding performance to secure the win, followed by Joaquim Barcelos Barcelos and João Morais, representing Clube de Vela do Barreiro.

The SB20 fleet delivered some of the most competitive racing of the weekend. Victory went to Xcellent, helmed by John Pollard with Gonçalo Lopes and Jorge Lima, representing the Royal Torbay Yacht Club. The Portuguese teams Active Sailing and AP Hotels, both from Clube Naval de Cascais, completed the podium—highlighting the strong national presence in the class.

In the 420 Class, the top spot was claimed by Bernardo Gomes and Pedro Gonzalez (Associação Naval de Lisboa), followed by Tomás Pacheco and Manuel Rocha (Clube de Vela de Viana do Castelo) and Miguel Lima and Manuel Pires Lima (Clube de Vela Atlântico).

In ILCA 6, Clube Naval de Cascais swept the podium entirely: Manuel Matos de Pinho took first place, ahead of Vasco Cortez and Luísa Peres, showcasing the depth of local talent.

In the Optimist Class, young sailors shone brightly. Afonso Vital (Clube Naval de Portimão) claimed victory, followed by João Marques (Clube Desportivo de Paço de Arcos) and Diogo Costa, also from Clube Naval de Portimão.

The event was supported by NacionalGest Consultores de Seguros, Marina de Cascais, and the Portuguese Sailing Federation.
