Muir Anchoring Systems is strengthening its range with the introduction of a new compact series of planetary drive horizontal winches to answer the demand for space-efficient anchoring island arrangements on the bow of modern superyachts and commercial vessels.

Featuring a single base plate which incorporates the chain stopper, windlass and chain wheel, the latest Muir Mega solutions are innovatively engineered to reduce the system's footprint by up to 40%.

The new horizontal Mega series encompasses a comprehensive size range of premium systems to suit a variety of vessels from 25m to 120m, offering advanced customisation opportunities, flexibility in design and simplified installation to boatbuilders, superyacht and mega yacht designers and naval architects for new build or retrofit applications.

Potential for multiple layout configurations provides new options for all types of mooring decks, with inline drives, vertical above deck drives, compact through deck drives and right-angle drives to meet the requirements of the shipyard.

The reduction in footprint, which eliminates the need for separate chain stoppers, return rollers and chain guides, decreases costs and complexity due to fewer components, while also improving ease of serviceability and access. Further cost reduction is possible if capstan drums are added to the horizontal winches with free-wheeling fairlead rollers, with the option for powered capstans for the bow arrangement if required.

With less chain above the deck, the Mega range maintains Muir's focus on safety and protection of the operator.

Muir Anchoring Systems General Manager Max Buckley said: "With every cubic centimetre of design space counting on today's yachts, naval architects, builders, and engineers are increasingly challenged to integrate high-performance systems within compact, multi-functional layouts. Anchoring equipment—once a purely mechanical consideration—now plays a critical role in vessel architecture, automation, and aesthetics.

"Our new compact planetary drive winch range is a perfect example of integration-led innovation which answers the need for advanced customisation for specific builds. At Muir, we are committed to offering exceptional flexibility for every project, especially in the ideal scenario when we are involved from the beginning. We recognise that our anchoring systems must evolve to meet new demands, with a focus on simple functionality, improved safety, system compactness, weight optimisation, and cross-discipline engineering collaboration between owners, crew, naval architects, deck engineers, and OEMs."

Family-owned business Muir is continuing to strengthen its footprint in the global leisure craft, superyacht and mega yacht sectors, expanding its distribution network and reach across Europe and beyond.

Muir Mega yacht anchoring systems are installed on some of the most prestigious yachts afloat, in partnership with world-renowned builders including Feadship, Luerssen, Incat, Austal, Damen, Moonen, Riviera and Maritimo, and trusted by naval architects at the forefront of superyacht innovation.

Muir Anchoring Systems returns to METSTRADE 2025 on Stand 08.413.
