Ibiza JoySail Race Director, Nacho Postigo, analyses the evolution of the event

Ibiza JoySail has anchored its position as a benchmark race in the superyacht calendar, with outstanding growth since its launch in 2021. This year's edition will be held from 18 to 21 September 2025 at the spectacular Marina Ibiza.

In just four years, Ibiza JoySail has become the key event in the Med in September.

Nacho Postigo, Director of Ibiza JoySail, recounts the evolution of the event in its five years of existence: "I'm the first to be surprised, to tell you the truth. The first year saw just four boats and this year we've got twenty-one, with five or six more on the waiting list".

Postigo highlights that the race has become an almost exclusive event: "It's an invitation-only race now, which proves the huge interest in taking part". This approach has been instrumental in maintaining the quality of the organisation, both on land and on the water. "There are people who want to be in the race because of the quality of the organisation. This means that the race has a great future ahead", he says.

The Ibiza JoySail experience is truly unique and allows all boats, owners and crew to enjoy the same experiences and sensations: "We want all the yachts to share an exclusive space reserved for participants", explains Nacho, adding that this contributes to the atmosphere and quality of the event.

On the future of the race, Postigo is optimistic: "It's strange to have achieved what we have done in just four editions. Last year was a roaring success, especially as only four yachts raced in the first ever edition. Eleven did so in the second year, which was great progress. In the third year there were thirteen and in the fourth there were eighteen, and that's only because two had to cancel at the last minute. And this year twenty-one, which is the cap we've set for space reasons and to ensure the best service for all attendees".

Regarding new developments for this year, Postigo mentions the "Outer Wind" and the expectation of numbers attending. "The important thing is that you don't have to optimise your yacht to be able to race; you can come as you are and there'll be a class for you". That's why Ibiza JoySail places huge importance on the "Corinthian Spirit", where contenders can enjoy the race without having to overhaul their boats. "We love seeing true racers, but we also value the essence of cruisers", he concludes.

Ibiza JoySail is much more than a world-class regatta; it's a family & friends event with activities that are interesting and fun for participants and companions alike. It combines thrilling days at sea with extraordinary shoreside proposals. Its laid-back but competitive atmosphere has made this race a benchmark on the Mediterranean superyacht circuit.
