Construction of the new super-fast cruiser Mylius M72 is underway

by Mylius Yachts 7 Apr 23:01 PDT

Unrivalled in the high-performance 70-foot range, the Mylius M72 is a pure racer with striking aesthetics and true competitiveness in regattas. Its refined, comfortable interiors are crafted to perfection, in line with the Mylius philosophy. This is the ideal yacht for those who don't want to choose between speed and comfort.

Designer Shaun Carkeek, famous for creating some of the most successful competitive sailing hulls, perfectly interpreted the shipyard's vision- to build a hull with all the features of Mylius' distinctive design style, elevated to the highest level. Every aspect, from the hull to the interior details, has been designed to meet the highest demands.

Cutting-edge design

The M72's sleek and muscular shapes, featuring an inverted bow, a minimalist deckhouse and a flush deck bridge, enhance the racer soul of this yacht, whose imposing architectural aesthetics fulfil a precise function. From the retractable anchor to the propeller's retractable shaft line, which reduces drag while sailing, everything on board has been planned and built to combine design, performance and comfort, minimising aerodynamic and hydrodynamic drag.

Powerful water lines for exceptional performance

Built entirely in the Piacenza shipyard in Italy, the M72 is constructed from full prepreg carbon fibre. Its waterlines make a clear statement of intent, immediately revealing its racing pedigree. The yacht features two rudders, a lifting keel and water ballast. The modern hull, with its wide stern and flared bow volume, guarantees incredible speed and excellent stability at sea. Thanks to the hull's high righting moment, this yacht is very stable even when heeled. The 1,000 litre water ballasts mean this yacht can successfully race even with a small crew, while the option of 3.9 m draught is incredibly useful when entering shallow ports or bays.

Sail plan designed to win

Developed in perfect synergy with the hull, the sail plan is that of a pure racer designed to win, as evidenced by the presence of running backstays, dual backstays and a 29.9-meter high-modulus carbon mast from Hall Spars, along with a carbon boom and bowsprit. The racing sail inventory includes a top square mainsail, J2 jib, Code 0, and A3, but the future owner can, of course, opt for smaller sails for cruising.

Multifunctional deck plan

The carbon-laminated flush deck (which, at the owner's discretion, can be finished in teak or skydry) is relatively high to keep the freeboard low and maximizing interior volumes; it is designed for maximum efficiency and simplicity. Taking advantage of the yacht's substantial beam (6 m), this uninterrupted area, free from corners or steps, has been optimized to facilitate the crew during manoeuvres. However, it can also be comfortably enjoyed by guests: for example, having the two helm wheels in a forward position frees up the stern, which can easily be outfitted with a large sunbathing area, perfect for relaxation while cruising.

All rigging is flush deck, and the winches (Harken Performance) are positioned to avoid hindering the crew. The cockpit is protected by a retractable bimini and, optionally, an awning. It includes two ergonomic seats; a removable table can be added here. Finally, the transom can accommodate a generously sized tender, and when cruising, it transforms into a comfortable swim platform, providing easy access to the water.

Interiors: spaces and volumes to customise as you wish

Responding to a specific request from MYLIUS YACHTS (which wanted to include truly refined and comfortable interiors, in line with the Mylius brand identity, Carkeek has created spaces and volumes worthy of a real blue water boat, masterfully interpreted, both in the layout and in the décor, by Studio Parisotto+ Formenton Architetti. The proposed version has three cabins with private bathrooms (master cabin at the bow, two guest cabins aft), a fully equipped galley and a spacious dinette with a day head. In the centre of the yacht, the keel box is flanked by a pullman berth on the right and a study on the left. The smooth surfaces and soft, rounded lines, which seem to follow the yacht's movements, add a dynamic character to these intentionally modern and sporty interiors, characterised by very high-quality materials and careful attention to detail. At this stage of construction, owners can customize the layout, colours, materials and fabrics to their preference.

Latest technology

On the M72, all the systems are meticulously designed and integrated through 3D software. Finite element analysis was used for the optimisation of the engineering of the structures and the hull. State-of-the-art instrumentation, telemetry and advanced electronics are part of the high-tech equipment onboard, which also utilizes a PLC system to automatically control the ballasts and automatically transfer 1,000 litres, from one wall to the other.

"Today there is no other 72-foot yacht like this on the market, because full carbon boats of this size, with lifting keel and water ballast, are typically designed exclusively for racing and are therefore very cramped, uncomfortable and completely empty inside," explains Francesco Bianchi from MYLIUS YACHTS. "With this yacht, however, MYLIUS YACHTS wanted to elevate its concept of super-fast cruiser to a new level, creating a beautiful yacht that can deliver exceptional performance together with refined, comfortable and well-designed interiors. Designed for those who want to enjoy the Mediterranean's competitive sailing circuits and also relax on a cruise with family or friends, the M72 is the perfect yacht for people who do not want to choose between the adrenaline of the race and comfort. In addition, given the already very advanced stage of the works, the M72 only requires a final personal touch from the customer before it is ready to set sail;: an added advantage, considering that more than two years pass between the project and the construction of such a yacht."
