2025 YachtsandYachting.com Racing Series - Round 1

by Terry Hunt 19 Mar 08:50 PDT 15-16 March 2025

Round 1 of the 2025 YachtsandYachting.com Racing Series was held over the weekend of 15th & 16th March. The Series comprises of five weekend events and a single day final late in the year. The Series is sailed in Prometheus Sailings 40ft one design fleet, offering great close racing amongst the crews.

Saturday saw 8 teams arrive at the start area. The weather was cold and cloudy with a Force 4/5 occasionally gusting F6 which was unable to decide if it was Northerly or North Easterly. Four races were started over a mixture of windward/leeward and round the cans courses.

Race 1 saw the two early leaders fly spinnakers on a tight reaching leg and not being able to fetch the next mark. Hyde Sails dropped early and managed to finish in 4th but the early leader BVI's (Clemens Mieth) dropped late and had to beat back to the mark eventually finishing in last place. The winner of Race 1 was Sunsail Helios (Michal Sisley) from Sunsail Zephyr (George Jacques).

Race 2 saw a change of fortunes with Sunsail Zephyr finishing first followed by Red Penguin (Duncan Milne) and with BVI in a more respectable third.

Races 3 & 4 saw BVI getting into gear and winning both races comfortably with Sunsail Helios in the results again in second in Race 3 and an improving Magenta Project (Kaan Konukcu) second in Race 4.

The overnight leader after 1 discard was BVI followed by Sunsail Zephyr and Red Penguin.

Day 2 - After a night in Cowes the boats were greeted by a cloudless morning although the breeze, now slightly less than before, was still from the North/North East and still cold. Magenta Project found some speed overnight with wins in Races 5 and 7. Marlow Ropes (Geoff Johns) came home first in Race 6 followed by BVI.

So after 7 close races and 5 different race winners, it was George Jacques and crew on Sunsail Zephyr that came out victorious, followed by Kaan Konukcu skippering Magenta Project, with these 2 teams qualifying for the final.

Further rounds are scheduled throughout the year and if you are interested in chartering and joining in some fantastic one design yacht racing, please email Terry Hunt at or for further details on the YachtsandYachting.com Racing Series, general charters or events, please visit www.prometheus-sailing.co.uk
