Vaikobi Windsurfer Class Australian National Championships at Toronto Amateur Sailing Club - Day 1

by Shane Baker 22 Jan 2025 04:09 PST 22-26 January 2025

Nationals are GO......

Official course racing kicked off day 1 for 2025 Vaikobi National Windsurfer Class Championships at Toronto Amateur Sailing Club NSW, 22nd- 26th January.

An entertaining briefing was held with newly elected Windsurfer Class president Jim and TASC race officer Evan.

A friendly mention of a hammerhead shark in the race area!!
The 139-strong fleet was confronted with a light 0-5knots Nor-easterly. Flat water in 36 degrees, making sailing challenging. Heavyweight and Super Heavyweight were the only two divisions that managed to complete a race. Other divisions were unfortunately unable to complete a race due to inconsistent breeze.

Provisional Results

Heavy Weight:
1st, John Buick
2nd, Michael Lancey
3rd, Matt Williams

Super Heavy:
1st, Graig Bell
2nd, Simon Jones
3rd, Jason Coonan

A welcome social evening was held at the impressively renovated Toronto Hotel where competitors and support crews relived the day's events.

Racing continues tomorrow..
