2024 ILCA Under 21 World Championship at Viana do Castelo, Portugal - Opening Ceremony

The 2024 ILCA Under 21 World Championship kicked off in Viana do Castelo, running from July 1st to 8th. The official first day featured perfect sailing conditions, setting a promising tone for the rest of the championship.

This diverse event hosts 235 sailors spanning nationalities from 41 countries. They began the day with an extensive measurement and equipment inspection, followed by a practice race in beautiful weather and consistent breeze. At 18:00 the festivities of the Opening Ceremony began, featuring local dancers and celebrating sailors with their national flags. The excitement is building to a very anticipated racing day tomorrow!

The Clube Náutico de Viana do Castelo facilities provide an excellent location for sailing events. They have over 6,000 sqm, three slipways, and numerous volunteers joining the event organization.

With a rich heritage that dates back to 1258, Viana do Castelo is a city of profound historical significance. Surrounded by the river Lima and the Atlantic Ocean, this city of 26,000 is a community fully committed to nautical sports activities, a testament to its enduring love for the sea.
