Sailors taking to the start line at the RS Tera North American Championship get a chance to race on the very same water as future Olympians.

The 2024 Championship is being held at Alamitos Bay Yacht Club on Long Beach; the sailing site of the 2028 Olympic Games.

Following on from last year's RS Tera North American Championship in Utah, the Championship is returning to the West Coast. The event runs June 8th to 9th, with practice sailing and a race clinic happening on Friday 7th June, the day before. Fast, fun and exciting, the RS Tera is a modern single-hander dinghy that gets juniors hooked on sailing. The pioneering growth of the class has seen over 50 RS Teras join the sport, and this year's 2024 Championship is hoping for big numbers on the beach.

This news of growing popularity comes at the same time as the RS Tera Class breaks records at an international level too. The RS Tera World Championship 2024 sold out last week - with registrations reaching the maximum entry of 120, more than three months in advance of the event.

The RS Tera North American Championship already has entries from Colorado, Utah and home clubs in California too, and organisers can't wait to welcome more sailors from all around. Both the Sport and Pro rigs will be racing, with the Pro Fleet competing over the two days of racing. The Sport Fleet will have its qualifiers on Day 1, to establish the selections for the 'Silver' and 'Gold' fleets, which will then compete for their own titles on Day 2 in the final day of the championship.

RS Tera International Class Chair, Berkeley Green, thinks the location is fantastic: "Alamitos Bay Yacht Club is one of the finest venues on the West Coast, known for its breeze, excellent regatta management and warm hospitality. This is a great opportunity for RS Tera sailors to experience rac-ing in Alamitos Bay, Long Beach, the same area as the 2028 Summer Olympics!"

Interested in joining? Enter here. Early entry is available until midnight on May 11th, 2024. Entries close at 18:00 US time on June 5th, 2024. The entry fee includes the fantastic race schedule, a re-gatta T-shirt, memorabilia and food on the Saturday and Sunday evenings. See you on the water for sunshine, smiles and competitive racing. And, who knows? There could be a future Olympian among the fleet...
