SORD Hilton's Synopsis Week 16

This week we're going to call our shot... the fishing is going to be off the charts. If you've got a boat anywhere in the northern GoM, you need to be getting offshore this weekend. It should be flat seas and biting fish just about everywhere.

If you get a good report, shoot us an email... we would love to hear what it is like out there in real-time!

Sea surface temperature

The shot from today is a little wonky due to cloud cover, but if you take inferences from earlier shots in the week you can make out where the water temperatures start to change. There is a strong push of warm water coming across the FADs and we believe that this will be a hot area this weekend and there should be a good number of people out there this weekend to give us a solid report.

The inshore water temperature is hovering around 70-72 right now, which is the low end of where we want the water temp to be for wahoo and tunas to start showing up. We will continue to monitor this and when it hits 74, that is when it should be game on over the shelf and the southwest ledges out of Destin.

Altimetry

The upwelling that we had been tracking last week has finally pushed into the MS Canyon completely and we are seeing it reach as far north as Marlin. This should continue to push north over the next week and we anticipate that the rigs should have an incredible bite on them right now.

There is a downwelling showing on the altimetry, but this is a backflow eddie shooting in from south of the FADs. It is bringing really nice water into our area, so we are excited to see the reports from this weekend. You will see this backflow eddie current on the currents chart.

Currents

The image above speaks volumes for what is happening right now in the Gulf. That warm water from the backflow eddie is shooting to the north and it looks like its getting stopped right at a cooler body of water and has formed a rip there.

Chlorophyll

We have a textbook shot from yesterday of the Chlorophyll. You will see a rip that has most likely formed somewhere north of the FADs and that the FADs are in completely clear, blue water. We would expect that the FADs produce some nice fish this weekend as well as the MS Canyon.

Our goal is to help give a brief overview of the Northern Gulf of Mexico Hilton's Realtime Navigator charts. This report is written to the best of our knowledge and we do not hold any liability for the days, time, and places that you choose to fish. If you have a fishing report from the previous week, please "reply to" this email and let us know. We want to keep this as up-to-date as possible using information from multiple sources.
