A significant new chapter has just begun for VX One sailors worldwide with the formation of the VX One International Class Association (ICA) .
After a robust round of nominations and voting, we’re excited to unveil a diverse global executive team—seven passionate individuals from six different nations ready to lead the Class into an exciting international future.
This milestone marks a critical step toward official recognition by World Sailing as an International Class — a designation that will open the doors to organizing VX One World Championships. It also means the Association will oversee more formal safeguards for the One Design aspect of the Class rules and equipment manufacturing standards.
Steering this exciting transformation is newly elected Class President Jeff Eiber, a seasoned VX One owner and former USA Class President. “This is an exciting time for VX One sailors everywhere,” says Jeff. “The boat naturally inspires intense, fun racing and amazing camaraderie wherever it’s sailed, so connecting fleets worldwide will add even more value for sailors. The coming months will be huge — we’ll fine-tune some of the class rules and lock in a world-class venue for our first-ever VX One World Championships.”
Launched in 2011 by designer Brian Bennett alongside co-designers Rodger Martin and Ross Weene, the VX One inspired sailors very early on. It won Sailing World’s Overall Boat of the Year in 2012 for its performance, innovation, and sheer fun factor. Since then, the fleet has flourished across five continents, drawing enthusiastic sailors from nearly every corner of the globe.
What makes the VX One stand out? It’s the perfect blend of accessibility and adrenaline. Designed for 2–3 sailors, the VX One offers sailors from junior to advanced high-octane performance in a beautifully designed, affordable, modern package. From its asymmetric spinnaker thrills to its user-friendly rigging and controls, this boat focuses on delivering maximum excitement.
One of the areas where the Class is seeing impressive growth is with mixed and all-female crew participation. “The boat is very versatile given its wide crew weight range and handling performance,” says Jeff Eiber.
Another major draw is the commitment to true one-design racing. While any sailmaker can build sails following strict measurement rules, the boat is constructed exclusively by top-tier one-design manufacturers Mackay Boats and Ovington Boats.
With a new International Association in place, a world championship on the horizon, and global momentum building, the VX One Class is set for some exhilarating international sailing.
