Optiorange 2024 at Real Club Náutico de Valencia - Day 2

by Pep Portas 1 Mar 2024 11:19 PST 28 February - 1 March 2024

The wind has conditioned this second day, with only one race completed but allowing the final series to start with the 102 best in the gold group.

The Optiorange Valencia continues to make its way, after closing the second day at the Real Club Náutico de Valencia. A day that has been marked by the wind and not for lack of intensity, although it has remained between 2 and 18 knots, but for its instability with many roles that has led to only the committee has been able to close a single race, enough to conclude the qualifying series and give way to the final series, with the 102 best in the gold group, the rest of the four groups consists of 101 sailors.

After this fourth race, in addition to moving on to the final series, the discard has come into play so the provisional general has important changes, although the Greek Iason Panagopoulos (NOK), in the yellow group, remains leader with 4 points, with a second place today.

Changes at the back, highlighting the provisional silver that is shared between Gustavo del Castillo (RCN Gran Canaria) and the Catalan Juan Lleonart (CN El Balís) both with 6 points. The first of them, red group, closes the day with a 3rd while Lleonart, sailing with the blues, signs a 2nd in this only race.

Greece's Maria Anna Makri (NOK) remains the leader in the women's race, although she drops a few places in the overall standings to 4th. Makri has 7 points, only 2 points behind Ukrainian Olha Lubianska (Optimist Way/JK Split/Obolon SK), who is also in 5th place. Puerto Rican Isabella Calzadilla is provisional bronze in women. With a 6th place today, she has a total of 17 points, the same as Sweden's Hilda Wallström (Sopraventus HPT/KKKKK).

As for the sailors of the RCN of Valencia, Pablo Lopez is the first of the table with 45 points, while Marta Ferrando is the first of the Valencian women, adding a total of 55 points. Both are in the gold group, as well as Alexandra Wang, Romina Vicent, Sole de Tomás and Lucia Pascual.

Tomorrow starts the first of the two days of the final series, with three races scheduled with the starting top for the first of them at 11.30 am, so the fleet will set course to the race area at 10.15 am.
