Dangerous conditions Sun 11 Feb

Why

A coastal trough lingers about the north coast while a high-pressure system over the Bight will move east into the southern Tasman Sea, maintaining fresh south to southeasterly airstream along the coast.

Winds will become northeasterly early new week as the coastal trough weakens and the high pressure system tracks further east towards New Zealand while extending a ridge over eastern New South Wales, then a new cold front and its associated trough looks set to bring a southerly wind change along the southern and central parts of the coast during the midweek next week.

Where

BOM is warning of dangerous fishing conditions on Sunday from the Macquarie down to the Illawarra coasts. There will be seas of 1.5 to 2.5 metres and southerly/easterly swell of 2 to 2.5 metres.

BOM is warning that surf conditions may be hazardous for crossing bars by boat and rock fishing.

Swell period

Swell period will be very short: 7 to 9 seconds.

Check local forecasts to get the latest before you go out on the BOM website at www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/map.shtml
