Dangerous fishing conditions update © RFA of NSW
Why
A low has formed off the South Coast and will deepen Sunday night, generating vigorous south to southwesterly winds and large and powerful waves. A southwesterly change associated with a passing cold front will also reach the northern waters Sunday evening. Winds are expected to gradually ease later Monday or Tuesday as the low moves away to the east, however, surf conditions are likely to remain hazardous for several days.
Where
On Monday, on the Byron/Coffs/Macquarie coasts seas will be 3 metres plus southerly swell of 5 to 7 metres.
On Monday, on the Hunter down to the Eden waters, seas will be 5 to 6 metres plus southerly swell of 4 to 8 metres.
On Tuesday, the entire coast will have seas of 2 to 3 metres plus southerly swell of 4 to 6 metres.
On Wednesday, from Byron down as far as Illawarra, seas will be 2.5 to 3 metres, plus southerly swell of 3 to 4 metres.
Warning
On all those coasts on those days, these are some of the most extreme conditions for many months, and BOM is warning that conditions will be dangerous for rock fishing and crossing bars.
