Immediate measures for sand flathead are being enacted to alleviate fishing pressure while the scalefish rules are being reviewed.
The following interim changes apply until 31 October 2023:
- Increasing the minimum size limit of sand flathead from 32 to 35 centimetres for recreational and commercial fishers;
- Reducing the recreational bag limit for sand flathead from 20 to 10 fish and
- Prohibiting commercial fishing for sand flathead in Frederick Henry and Norfolk Bays.

- There are no changes to catch limits for other flathead species.
- The minimum size of 35cm also applies to commercial fishing.
